The book, which we are pleased to present, is a reflection of the debate on the role of evaluation in strategic management in the public sector.

First part of this publication concentrates on various aspects of systemic inclusion of evaluation studies in the activities of public institutions and on the role which is and should be played by evaluation in the context of reforms relating to the economic crisis or to current demographic trends.

The second part of this publication is devoted to methodological aspects. The authors have reflected on the possibilities of applying research methods and techniques which were not generally applied in Polish evaluation studies so far or which have been used, but in contradiction with their nature.

We hope that the readers find this publication interesting and inspiring in their every-day work.
