Project description

It is estimated that up to 30% of the population suffer from symptoms associated with bruxism, i.e. pathological grinding between mandibular teeth and jaw teeth, that occurs mostly at night. Under the project Hager Polonia, which specializes in professional oral hygiene and prevention, developed and launched an innovative treatment service for bruxism. The service uses devices with electrodes for masseter muscles and heart muscles whose signals help to determine the severity of the condition with high accuracy.

The project covered the purchase of a consulting service, five devices for the registration and recording of muscle electrical activity with a set of 500 disposable surface electrodes and an autoclave for tool sterilization. The consulting service made it possible to apply extended interpretation of the patient’s heart rate, their body weight and neck circumference in bruxism diagnosis. A report on the results interpretation has been made available to the public, which allows the service to be widely used, even by medical practitioners of other specialisations. The Bruxoff diagnostic method is marketed to doctors by organising training sessions for them. We assume that the method will soon become a model one in bruxism treatment.

The target group for the service are particularly challenging types of patients with bruxism, i.e. the elderly, the obese and individuals who suffer from nervous disorders. The new therapy can help to easily improve their quality of life: thanks to the use of digital devices and oral splints, the patient - after short training - is able to follow the treatment at home.
