Project description

Brandbox sells and repairs wooden pallets for moving and storing goods. Pallet renovation in our facility has so far been carried out on a very limited scale, and in a non-automated way - using only power tools. However, our aim is to recycle instead of disposing of damaged pallets, as often replacing just one element of a pallet allows its further use. Therefore, we will implement a complex and automated pallet renovation line under this project. The technology will combine a number of machines and equipment into a line, which will only require human supervision, and not manual work. The project implementation will limit the disposal of damaged pallets by their end users, which is harmful to the environment. It will save around 95% of the wood that, according to current practices, would have been wasted, equalling 2 334 tons of unproduced waste per year. It will indirectly protect the forest stand as fewer pallet recipients will decide to buy new pallets (made of new wood). Our activity is also bound to increase the industry’s awareness of responsible behaviour which can be achieved with little effort, and brings benefits not only for the environment, but also for clients who reduce their operating costs by not having to buy new pallets. As part of the project, Brandbox is also planning to install a complete photovoltaic system on the roof of the production building and implement a new model for the management of manual workers. With the projected energy savings of 125,190.30 kWh per year, the direct environmental effect will be a reduction in yearly CO2 emissions by 97.77 tons.
