Project description

Brandbox sells and repairs wooden pallets for moving and storing goods. Our intention in the project was to recycle instead of disposing of damaged pallets. For this purpose we purchased and installed a complex, robotised pallet renovation line, consisting of: an automatic assembly line connecting elements which had previously been dismantled from regenerated pallets, a dismantling stand for damaged pallets, a control cabinet, sensors, an aerodynamic drying room, and a dust removal system. Also, a process of phytosanitary pallet certification has been conducted. In addition, a complete photovoltaic system of 150 kW has been installed on the roof of the production building to power the new line.

We have therefore implemented an automated process of repair of damaged pallets, which only requires human supervision, and not manual work. The line also produces new pallets from elements of destroyed, unusable transport pallets. The former have been marketed as our new product, next to the new service of damaged pallet renovation. The project implementation has significantly limited the disposal of damaged pallets by their end users. It saves around 95% of the wood that, according to our previous practices, would have been wasted. That equals 2 334 tons of unproduced waste per year. With the projected energy savings of 125 190.30 kWh per year, the direct environmental effect is a yearly reduction of CO2 emissions of 97.77 tons.
