Project description

In a wood processing plant, the manipulation of round wood is performed in order to obtain raw material of appropriate lengths, eliminate excessive curvature and remove defects blocking further processing. The process used at the Trans-Wood plant before the project was implemented was not very efficient in terms of quality and energy. Therefore, under the project we introduced a special line for quality manipulation of wood, which resulted in better quality of raw material sold to sawmills, furniture factories and pulp and paper plants. That also allowed us to offer two new products made of processed waste from the wood segregation process. Wood with defects is now processed efficiently: pieces with defects are cut out and turned into fireplace wood, and the waste of the debarking process, i.e. the removal of the top protective layer of wood, is made into garden bark.

The project consisted in the purchase of a complex line for quality wood manipulation, and a loader for loading sorted wood and firewood for transport. We also purchased 50 kW photovoltaic panels which reduced energy consumption by 0.03 GWh and CO2 emissions by 26.92 tons per year.

Combining the new line with renewable energy supported Trans-Wood’s market position as a company with strong environmental awareness - the need for network electricity has been reduced, and at the same time the production of biofuel (firewood) has been launched.
